Post Using Mosets Tree as the sole content component with Joomla

In a quest to reduce extension clutter, and to consolidate content management, a CCK will always be the solution. It would be great if the article component of Joomla was a CCK, but the crew does not support that idea. However, Mosets Tree is a CCK and it serves the purpose well (though there are a few areas for improvement).

The website at http://my-caribbeanradio.com uses only Mosets Tree for all the content including;
  • Articles / Blog
  • Photo Gallery
  • Video Gallery
  • Audio Playlist
  • Contact Form
  • Directory
  • PayPal Cart
  • Event List
  • Poll

The website started life as an internet radio directory but eventually moved towards blogging and such. It was just chaotic and tedious switching between components: Article manager, Joomgallery, All Video Share, Music Collection, RS Events, RokQuickCart, Sexy Polling and Mosets Tree. So after some sketching and tweaking at the Mosets template system, I figured it would be ideal to move all the functions into Mosets. So all (except Mosets) those extensions and all their plugins and modules have been uninstalled.

Publishing has been much smoother. Any content type can be created in a single Mosets post, and there is no limit. Now a single post can include video gallery, audio playlist, photo gallery and a PayPal cart to buy multiple items. All without leaving Mosets tree and without plugins, just using the Mosets custom field system.

The Works
Each category uses a different Mosets Tree template and each template has special coding, layout format and function additions.

Events are set to display by date of event ascending, and auto unpublish on the date of the event. The map is already included with Mosets. There are no RSVP or seating etc, but if needed, that could easily be created with custom fields.

Hi Peter,

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing!

I really like how you're making full use of the template system and top level categories for all of these. Here's what I've been able to find:

Events: http://my-caribbeanradio.com/event-list
Radio Stations: http://my-caribbeanradio.com/
Blog: http://my-caribbeanradio.com/mcr-post/
Media: http://my-caribbeanradio.com/media-cloud

Where do you use it for Cart and Polling?

The poll is at http://my-caribbeanradio.com/mcr-pos...m-for-lady-saw
Using the Ajax Poll script by PHPKobo http://www.phpkobo.com/ajax_poll.php
A custom text field is used to insert the poll question and a custom textarea is used for the choices. Each choice is created by separating with vertical bar |. The template coding creates the array and writes to the poll script.

The cart can be seen at http://my-caribbeanradio.com/bro-gary
Using an old javascript coding from 2007 by paypal.com
Each item is entered in a custom textarea and separated by a combination of vertical bar for item name and price then 3 hyphens for new item.
Ex:
The great robbery|35
---
The Book of horrors|15
The template coding does the array and formatting

The audio playlist is http://my-caribbeanradio.com/april
Using jPlayer from http://jplayer.org
Each item is entered in a custom textarea and separated by 3 hyphens. The template coding does the array and formatting

It would certainly be ideal if you make the listings menu item selectable. Currently I have to use External menu type to create a menu item to a list page and the URL is not SEF

Do you mean menu item for a specific listing?

Yes. Just like assigning a menu item to a single article, I would like to do the same for a single Mosets listing/article, now that Mosets tree is flexible enough to serve as a CCK. It would certainly enhance your sales.
