Default Template issues

Hi,

Is there a way to force a component to use a specific template?

I have created a button for the user to add a listing, and assigned a wider template to that button, so that it looks correct on the site. The problem is that elsewhere on the site if the user tries to edit their listing the edit page opens in the default template. I cannot assign a menu item to 'edit', so I cannot assign the wider template to that.

How can I force the edit listing page to use a specific template. Could it be hard coded into the edit / add listing php?
