Can anyone explain to em the difference between VIP and Featured?

I may be making a mistake , but I'm trying to install a payment script I downloaded from http://3dwebdesign.org/;it creates a payment solution for VIP listings.And when I go to the custom fields to check,it starts out with core fields and then there are created custom fields, but at the end, I find 2 hidden fields, and one is VIP. I know I never created such a custom field, so I thought it comes with MT.
I've tried to contact the developer ; he said VIP and Featured are the same.

the VIP field is part of the component you have installed from 3dwebdesign I have the same payment system.

Thanks ; that's what I suspected.
I've had trouble installing (or/and making it work).
Am I correct; all it does is create a payment for a specific amount of time?
Will it give a member the choice to pay extra for 'featured'?
