Hi, you are proposed a free hack which allows quick browsing for listings grouped by country, state or suburb!
Free hack is provided on “as is” basis. You may contact me at justPHP a.t gmail d.o.t com if you are interested in the advanced version or need some modifications/adjustments to the module and/or hack. To run the hack: - apply hacks as described in the attached instructions (read them carefully) - download and install qBrowse module attached to this post NOTE: There two variants of the module: 1). Free version of the module (attached) which looks like this: QB_lite.JPG 2). Advanced version (available for a payment) mod_adv.JPG The advanced version has useful extra features: + ANY EXTRA FIELD could be set for grouping the properties (listings based on an values stored in extra field) + number of published properties could be displayed for each menu item + sorting could be done either by menu item's name or by # of properties + vertical, horizontal & flat styles of the module are available + an image could be displayed for each menu link + support of friendly URLs (OpenSEF, SEF Advance, Artio JoomSEF) + you could assign Joomla menus/modules for qBrowse links (for example, individual menus for each country) + CSS style control + all module's parameters are configurable from the back-end + you could quickly access a record (property) by its unique ID (optional) + and, of cause, other features could be added upon agreement! You may contact me at justPHP a.t gmail d.o.t com if you are interested in the advanced version or need further modification/improvements to the module and/or hack. Demo is availalbe at http://demo.justphp.net http://demo.justphp.net/administrator/ CHANGE LOG 10-Dec-2007 Hacking instructions v1.2.0 are available [+] support for grouping properties by ANY appropriate EXTRA field in addition to the 3 core field (available only with advanced version of the qBrowse module) 17-Feb-2007 Hacking instructions v1.1.0 are available [+] to make the hack compatible with the subtypes hack section 2.2 of this instructions was updated (now it combines hacks from both section 2.2 & 2.3 of previous instructions); [*] improved support of custom sef_ext.php settings ENJOY! In the newly attached hack's instructions (file 'instruction_QBrowse.zip') I've corrected a misprint in the section 1.2 for file \components\com_hotproperty\hotproperty.php.
Sorry for the inconveniences. |

One more free advise
![]() Currently, the listing displayed for a selected country or state or suburb shows all fields having data filled in. If you want to see only fields with feature 'listing' checked in (in other words, a shorter listing - the same type of listing displayed when you look at properties of a type), please follow the instructions: 1. In the 'function showQBrowse' at file \components\com_hotproperty\hotproperty.php (if you have already applied the hack instructions from section 1.2 - look at the file 'Instruction_QBrowse.zip' attached to the first message of this thread) FIND PHP Code:

Two minor changes were introduced into the hack instructions (look at the new Instruction_QBrowse_v1_0_1.zip file attached to the first post):
- By default a short type of property listing is displayed (similar to the listing of a property type); - First letter is uppercased (i.e. Country, State, Suburb) in the top of the properties’ listing. Last edited by gray; 10-31-2006 at 02:16 PM. |

Hi
Thanks for the hack, it works brilliantly. Only problem is it displays the results horizontaly and I need to display it vertically. Can you tell me how I would do this? Thanks Leo |

Gray,
I am very interested in using your hacks and have downloaded everything. Your posts say there is a fee version---do you have a Web site I can go to to check out the hacks in action, and any way to place an order? I think you could do well with selling hacks like this. My experience with Hot Property so far is that it could really use more depth to the types and sub-types and sub-categories, and to allow these types and sub-types to be searchable. And this is where my real question is: Will these sub-types in your hack show up in the advanced search that Hot Property provides? I see that Q Browse allows browsing of the sub-types, but I would like them to show up in the search form. My intended primary use for the hack at this point is to attempt for people to narrow down a geographical area to search since I am covering a large and diverse region. I want them to be able to go straight to the search form instead of browsing through dozens of listings.Forgive me if this is a question you've already answered or is apparent in the hack itself, as I have yet to implement it fully, and I 've read through all the threads and this is not clear to me. If advanced search does not take your hack at this point, can you figure out how? I bet this would be useful to many. Thanks, SparkyDog

As far as I understood, you'd like to have a drop-down list of countries/states/suburbs instead of simple textboxes, as they appear now in the advanced search. It's possible to implement, but currently the free hack doesn't realize this feature. Quote:
As you may observe, I take into consideration users' suggestions and proposals (eg. some of them are realized in the recent version of the subtypes module). The only problem is that paid jobs/hacking have a higher priority, I hope you understand. So, it's a matter of free time.Good luck! |

Gray,
I don't know how I missed your reply--it's now quite few days old. I appreciate the clear responses---that is, I think I understand that your answer is that the sub-types created by your hack do not at present not show up in the advanced search form that HP provides. At this point I've decided not to apply the hack and just create more searchable fields within HP itself. It's a matter of simplicity and expediency at this point, though I am going to apply your hack in a development and see how it works and look at possible future usages. I may actually be capable of implementing the addition of the fields and drop-downs to the search form myself. I'm not a total noob with Php/mySql at this point, but I'm no virtuoso and don't do it for a living or have the experience like you and others here do. However, it seems it shouldn't be too complex & difficult to do. BUT, I'm on focussed on getting the site done and looking for any ready products or hacks out there I can just slip in so I can avoid getting too into coding issues where I'm not a whiz, but would have to put on the brakes and pull out the books and pace the floor and squeeze my forehead a lot until I figured it out. Thanks, and I may need to talk to you in the future!

If you are talking about the module, change the module style from the back-end. There are 3 variants there: vertical, horizontal and flat list.

Why not use the standard free Maxmind db for creating those country/city for searches, alerts and other mappings etc?
It works fine with the MetaMod - display modules according to rules http://extensions.joomla.org/compone...391/Itemid,35/but I would like to use the same country/city database for HP 1.0 and other extensions too if possible. Free dls. http://www.maxmind.com/download/geoi...e/GeoIP.dat.gz and http://www.maxmind.com/download/geoi...iteCity.dat.gz About GeoIP Country/City database * Download the MaxMind GeoLite Country database, uncompress it (it's in gz format), then place it at the location geoip/GeoIP.dat in on your web server root (you will usually require an FTP or SFTP client to upload this to your site). * For even more power, download the Maxmind GeoLite City database, and install it at geoip/GeoLiteCity.dat. This gives you the ability to make module rules based on the city/state/county/area code/postal code/latitude/longitude of the person viewing the site. I have this already working in Joomla 1.5.7 where you can localize a user with special messages depending on his ip no (country, city etc). What you think Mr Gray and Mr Lee? |
